Lucknow: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 591.3 kg of ganja, estimated to be worth around Rs 3 crore, from a truck intercepted between Gorakhpur and Kushinagar. The seizure followed intelligence inputs that a truck carrying the contraband from Nepal would enter the state through the Sonauli border crossing.According to DRI, a team of officers in Gorakhpur mounted surveillance in coordination with teams in Lucknow, Patna and Varanasi to identify the suspected vehicle. After more than four hours of surveillance and analysis of toll data, officers identified and intercepted the truck.A detailed search revealed two specially constructed concealed compartments inside the vehicle — one above the hood and another behind the driver’s seat. Officials recovered 81 packets containing a total of 591.3 kg of ganja from these compartments. The substance tested positive for ganja using a field-testing kit.The contraband, along with the truck, was seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway to establish the origin of the consignment and identify those involved in the suspected trafficking network.
