GURGAON: Haryana Police’s Special Task Force (STF) arrested a man carrying a Rs 5 lakh reward in connection with the broad daylight murder of Abohar businessman Sanjay Verma, owner of New Wearwell, in Hisar on Thursday.Acting on specific intelligence, a Hisar STF team intercepted the accused near the bypass flyover on Rajgarh Road and took him into custody. Police recovered an illegal .32-bore pistol and three live cartridges from his possession.An FIR (No. 520) was registered at Azad Nagar police station in Hisar on October 2 under Sections 25(6) and 25(1-B)(A) of the Arms Act in connection with the weapon recovery.The accused, a resident of Rajiv Nagar in Punjab, was wanted in a murder case registered at City-1 police station in Abohar, Fazilka district, on July 7, 2025. Police said Verma was murdered outside his showroom and that the accused allegedly carried out the killing along with his associates.Police had suspected the involvement of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in the crime, and a gangster from Maharashtra was also allegedly involved.Punjab Police had announced a Rs 5 lakh reward for information leading to the accused’s arrest.Following his arrest, the STF is questioning the accused to establish his role in other criminal cases and identify his associates. Investigators are also probing his possible links to other offences and seeking to establish the extent of the criminal network connected to him.Haryana DGP Ajay Singhal said the state police would continue its efforts to apprehend wanted and absconding criminals and take effective action against organised crime. He stressed the importance of inter-state coordination in tracking criminals wanted in serious cases.The investigation into the accused’s activities and his alleged associates is underway.
