Lucknow: A 53-year-old woman was saved from a potentially disabling stroke after doctors at KGMU administered a clot-busting drug within 90 minutes of her arrival at the hospital. The woman developed sudden speech difficulty and weakness on the right side of her body on Oct 21. At KGMU, doctors conducted a CT scan and diagnosed a stroke caused by blockage of blood flow to the brain. She was given a medicine that dissolves blood clots. Within hours, she regained her speech and strength in her limbs. KGMU said the patient had moderate neurological impairment when she arrived. The treatment was carried out by the department of neurology led by Dr Rajesh Verma and senior professor Dr Shweta Pandey.Doctors said the case highlights the importance of timely treatment, as medicines that dissolve blood clots can significantly reduce disability when given soon after a stroke. They urged people to seek immediate medical attention for sudden speech difficulty, facial drooping, vision problems or weakness on one side of the body, stressing that every minute is critical during a stroke.
