Ghaziabad: A head constable at the Govt Railway Police (GRP) station has been sent to the police lines after a video showing him beating a 15-year-old boy with a wooden plank surfaced on social media. In the nearly 22-second video, head constable Sikander Singh (35) is seen hitting the boy eight times with the plank as he lies on the ground to protect himself. An announcement of an arriving train can be heard in the background. The video was allegedly shot by a train passenger from outside the GRP station on the night of Oct 22 and shared on social media. The SP of the GRP’s Moradabad circle, Ashutosh Shukla, told TOI that on the night of Oct 22, two youths from Delhi reached the railway station from Delhi. They snatched a bag from a man who was sleeping on platform number 3 and started running. The man woke up when he realised his bag was missing and raised an alarm. The youths were caught and the bag was recovered. They were brought to the police outpost inside the railway station. From the video that surfaced on social media, it can be believed that Singh was hitting the teenager while questioning him.“The youths were released as the man whose bag they had snatched did not file a complaint,” SP Shukla said. “On Friday, we received the video which was possibly recorded by another passenger. The constable can be seen beating a youth. An enquiry has been set up against the constable and the GRP circle officer Ashok Sisodiya is conducting it.”
