JD(U) expels Anant, wife for six years over anti-party activities
Mokama MLA Anant Singh with his wife Neelam Devi

Patna: The JD(U) on Saturday expelled Mokama MLA Anant Kumar Singh and his spouse, former MLA Neelam Devi, from the party for six years. The order, issued with immediate effect by JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha, terminates their primary memberships on charges of gross indiscipline and blatant anti-party activities. The action follows weeks of escalating tension during the Bihar legislative council elections for the high-stakes Patna Graduates’ constituency. According to senior party officials, Anant Singh openly defied directives from the JD(U)’s top leadership. Instead of backing the party’s official nominee, Neeraj Kumar — who is seeking a fourth consecutive term — Singh aggressively campaigned for Jan Suraaj candidate Anuj Singh. The official party communication noted that the Mokama lawmaker repeatedly ignored internal warnings and used highly insulting language against the JD(U)’s top leadership.Compounding the political action, the JD(U) has formally petitioned Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar, demanding the cancellation of Anant Singh’s assembly membership. The ruling party has sought his disqualification under provisions laid down in the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution, popularly known as the anti-defection law.The double action underscores the JD(U) leadership’s unyielding stance on internal rebellion. The internal rift had recently reached a flashpoint after Singh made a string of highly controversial public remarks on camera regarding his past political associations and spoke publicly against party candidate Neeraj. The high-profile purge signals strict enforcement of party discipline against line-crossing legislators. In a recent viral video that surfaced online, Anant Singh triggered a massive political storm by stating that he had made immense personal sacrifices during former chief minister (CM) Nitish Kumar’s early political struggles. He openly claimed, “I got nine people killed.” Though he later backtracked and claimed he was speaking about his own associates being killed by political rivals, the remark severely embarrassed the JD(U) leadership.
