Jaipur: Envisioned as a centre for scientific research into mantras and their practical applications, Rajasthan Mantra Pratishthan is yet to launch its proposed academic courses, 18 years after it was announced in the 2008-09 state budget. The institute has no permanent faculty; all eight sanctioned posts are vacant, and no admissions have taken place. Instead, its activities are largely centred on religious recitations and havans. The building, constructed at a cost of Rs 5.5 crore, was handed over to the university in 2019 but remains unused for its intended academic purpose.

Director Kuldeep Singh said the institute was established to distinguish the scientific study of mantras from ritualistic practices. “The Vedas are not just about chanting mantras. They contain knowledge about life, the universe and its structures. Our aim is to make this knowledge accessible to the common people,” he said. However, since June 2026, the institute has been regularly conducting recitations of the Sunderkand and four Vedas. Its website, inaugurated by Governor Haribhau Bagade on Sept 7, also offers 34 puja services, including Griha Pravesh puja, Vastu Shanti and Annaprashan sanskar. These are the same ‘ritualistic’ aspects which the institute aimed to avoid, while it focused on ecological, agricultural and healing applications of mantras.

We plan to introduce courses in the next two to three months. We will also offer free courses in astrology, Vastu and basic mantra sadhana for the public,” Singh said. He added that the faculty recruitment is underway.BJP MLA and Rajasthan University Syndicate member Balmukund Acharya said, “I will write to the university seeking an explanation for the delay and ask what plans are in place to start the courses. I will ensure that the courses begin at the earliest.”
