Jaipur: Around 250 participants from across India and six countries came together at Rajasthan University for a three-day international conference on advances in physical sciences and technology. Organised by the department of physics, the conference began Oct 22.Physics department head S K Gupta said, “The conference is particularly beneficial for postgraduate students, many of whom will enter research areas in the next two to three years. Today, research is not confined to a single field. It requires interdisciplinary applications and knowledge of multiple disciplines. The conference brings scientists and researchers on a common platform to exchange ideas and understand how different fields can be integrated.”Lata Panwar, an experimental high-energy physicist working with CMS Collaboration at CERN, Switzerland, received the Women in Science Excellence award. “My research work is about understanding what happened millions of years ago that led to the universe to exist in the way we see it today. The conference gave me an opportunity to discuss research at an international level with experts from different fields,” she said.Ritesh Pandey, a PhD researcher at North-West University, South Africa, received the Best Presentation award. “Through my research, I am trying to understand the dynamics of particles around compact objects such as black holes and neutron stars, and how light bends around them. This research could help improve space observation techniques,” he said.French particle physicist Maxime Gouzevitch appreciated discussions linking scientific questions about the universe with Vedic thought and Hindu philosophy.
