Ranchi: BJP’s Jharkhand unit on Sunday resolved to intensify awareness campaigns and issue-based agitations against what it described as the state govt’s failure to fulfil election promises and address concerns related to employment, law and order, corruption and other public issues. The party said it would reach out to people at their homes, explain its assessment of the govt’s performance and highlight the concerns of youths, farmers, women, tribals and other disadvantaged sections. It also reiterated its goal of restoring what it called good governance in Jharkhand and contributing to India’s target of becoming a developed country by 2047.Leader of opposition in the assembly Babulal Marandi presented the party’s political resolutions and criticised the JMM-Congress alliance. He alleged that tribal land and property had been better protected during BJP-led govts, while claiming that development works had slowed and corruption had increased under the present dispensation.Marandi also said Congress had ignored the demand for a separate Jharkhand, which, he claimed, was fulfilled after BJP came to power at the Centre. He described the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act as beneficial to the country and the state, and said it dealt only with major minerals. He further raised concerns over changes in the state’s tribal demography, alleging that the issue had become part of vote-bank politics for JMM and Congress.BJP also urged the state govt to complete the triple test for reservation for backward classes and hold the three-tier panchayat elections at the earliest. The resolutions, adopted unanimously, proposed mass contact programmes and issue-based protests against the ruling alliance.Congress state spokesperson Rakesh Sinha rejected the allegations, accusing the NDA govt at the Centre of presiding over high levels of corruption. He also alleged that BJP had undermined democratic processes through what he termed “vote theft” and said the party was seeking agitations in Jharkhand to divert attention from its own record.
