LUCKNOW: An FIR has been registered in Sultanpur over allegations that forged signatures of a voter, Nand Lal, were used to submit Form-7 applications seeking the deletion of 26 names from the electoral roll, officials said on Monday. The action followed a complaint raised by the Samajwadi Party at a press conference on October 15, alleging a conspiracy to remove voters through fraudulent applications.According to the office of the Uttar Pradesh chief electoral officer, an inquiry conducted by the Electoral Registration Officer of Sadar Assembly constituency (189) found that 26 Form-7 applications bearing Nand Lal’s signatures had been submitted to the Booth Level Officer (BLO) at polling station 96, Primary School Arjunpur, Room 1.However, none of the applications was accepted or processed as they lacked essential details, including the applicant’s name, voter ID card number and mobile number. The BLO was removed from election duties for accepting incomplete applications without verifying the applicant’s identity. Disciplinary action against the official has also been recommended to the department concerned.Meanwhile, the BLO supervisor lodged an FIR at Gosainganj police station on October 24 under Sections 336(3), 340(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relating to forgery, the use of forged documents and cheating.Election officials clarified that none of the 26 Form-7 applications was approved and that no voter was deleted from the electoral roll on the basis of these applications.
