Uttar Pradesh has crossed a significant milestone in its journey towards becoming a major technology and services hub, with the state’s IT-ITeS exports crossing the Rs 1 lakh crore mark for the first time.During 2025-26, Uttar Pradesh recorded IT-ITeS exports worth Rs 1,01,970 crore, marking a significant expansion of the state’s technology economy and reinforcing its emergence as an important destination for information technology, business services and digital enterprises. The achievement is particularly significant because it represents more than a numerical milestone. It reflects a structural change in the state’s economic profile, with technology and knowledge-based services becoming an increasingly important component of growth alongside traditional sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, handicrafts and other services. The scale of the transformation becomes clearer when the latest figure is compared with the position five years earlier. IT exports, which stood at Rs 48,004 crore, have more than doubled to Rs 1,01,970 crore in 2025-26. This represents an increase of nearly 112% in five years. The expansion points towards a broader transformation in Uttar Pradesh’s investment and employment ecosystem. Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, the state has increasingly focused on creating an environment in which technology companies, IT-enabled services firms, startups and digital enterprises can establish operations and expand their presence.

Crossing the Rs 1 lakh crore threshold

Crossing the Rs 1 lakh crore threshold is an important milestone for Uttar Pradesh’s technology sector. The export figure of Rs 1,01,970 crore demonstrates the growing capacity of enterprises operating from the state to serve national and international markets.IT-ITeS exports are particularly important because they represent a knowledge-intensive component of the economy. Unlike conventional exports that depend heavily on the movement of physical goods, technology and business-service exports are driven by skilled human resources, digital infrastructure, communications networks, professional capabilities and global business connections. The latest figures therefore indicate that Uttar Pradesh is increasingly participating in the global digital economy. The five-year rise from Rs 48,004 crore to Rs 1,01,970 crore is not simply an increase in the value of exports. It reflects the expansion of the underlying ecosystem, from technology companies and IT-enabled services providers to software professionals, startups, data-driven businesses and support infrastructure. For a state with one of the country’s largest youth populations, the growth of this sector has additional significance: it creates opportunities for higher-value employment within the state itself.

STPI units emerge as a major export engine

Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) units have played an important role in this expansion. During 2025-26, STPI units in Uttar Pradesh contributed exports worth Rs 52,778 crore. This contribution illustrates the continuing importance of specialised technology infrastructure in supporting export-oriented businesses. STPI facilities have historically helped software and technology companies access the infrastructure and regulatory support required to serve overseas markets. The fact that STPI units account for more than half of the state’s total IT-ITeS exports highlights the depth of the software-services ecosystem that has developed around these centres. It also demonstrates that technology growth in Uttar Pradesh is no longer confined to isolated corporate offices. It is increasingly supported by an institutional ecosystem capable of facilitating software exports and technology-enabled business activity.

SEZs add another Rs 49,192 crore

Special Economic Zones (SEZs) constitute another major pillar of the state’s IT export ecosystem. During 2025-26, SEZs generated IT-ITeS exports worth Rs 49,192 crore. Taken together, the contributions from STPI units and SEZs illustrate the broad-based nature of Uttar Pradesh’s technology export ecosystem. The two streams also underline the importance of specialised economic infrastructure in attracting technology-oriented investment. IT companies require reliable connectivity, modern office infrastructure, access to skilled professionals and an ecosystem that enables them to operate efficiently in globally competitive markets. The expansion of exports through STPI units and SEZs suggests that Uttar Pradesh is steadily developing these capabilities.

Lucknow emerges as an important technology destination

While Noida and the wider National Capital Region have traditionally represented the strongest technology cluster in Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow is increasingly emerging as another important centre of the state’s IT economy. The establishment of offices by major global and national technology and business-services companies has strengthened the capital’s position on the technology map.IBM, Genpact and Teleperformance are among the prominent companies that have established offices in Lucknow. Their presence is important not merely because of the direct investment and employment associated with their operations, but also because global companies tend to bring professional standards, technology exposure, training opportunities and links with international markets. The expansion of such companies can create a multiplier effect. A larger corporate technology presence increases demand for skilled professionals, office infrastructure, accommodation, transport, training services and other support activities. For Lucknow, this represents a gradual shift from being primarily an administrative and political capital to becoming a more diversified centre for services and knowledge-based activities.

Noida continues to anchor the technology ecosystem

The state’s IT transformation cannot be viewed without recognising the continuing importance of Noida and the wider NCR region. Over the years, Noida has developed into one of Uttar Pradesh’s strongest technology and electronics clusters. Its proximity to Delhi, modern infrastructure, connectivity, large commercial spaces and access to a substantial talent pool have made it an attractive location for technology companies. The growth of IT exports is therefore being supported by a
