LUCKNOW: Electricity consumers across Uttar Pradesh will get the highest-ever relief of 9.17% in applicable electricity charges in their November 2026 bills under the Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (FPAAS) mechanism, translating into estimated savings of Rs 645 crore for consumers across the state.Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) announced the relief on Wednesday, saying it would benefit domestic, commercial and other categories of electricity consumers.UPPCL managing director Nitish Kumar said this would be the fifth consecutive month of relief through negative FPAAS adjustments, reflecting lower actual power procurement and fuel costs compared with those factored into electricity tariffs.Consumers received relief of 4.43% in July, 2.92% in August, 7.93% in September and 5.24% in October. The November adjustment of 9.17% is the highest in this five-month period.Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad president and State Advisory Committee member Avadhesh Kumar Verma said the latest adjustment would provide financial relief of approximately Rs 645 crore to electricity consumers across the state.Verma described the fifth consecutive monthly reduction as a significant step towards protecting consumer interests, adding that crores of electricity consumers would benefit directly from the reductions.Under the FPAAS mechanism, variations in actual fuel and electricity purchase costs are passed on to consumers through periodic adjustments to electricity bills. When procurement costs fall below the levels already factored into tariffs, the resulting savings are passed on to consumers through reduced charges.Kumar attributed the continued relief to effective management of electricity procurement costs. He said UPPCL was also working to improve consumer services while ensuring a reliable and quality electricity supply across Uttar Pradesh.
