NEW DELHi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Thursday warned police officers allegedly targeting party workers to please West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari. He added that those responsible would face consequences when his party returned to power.“I am keeping a list of names. None will be spared once the government changes,” Banerjee said, accusing police officers of implicating thousands of TMC workers in false cases at the behest of the chief minister.“I will identify the names of the police officers who are acting at his (Adhikari’s) behest. I will record their names. Those who are trying to please the chief minister and secure good postings will see the consequences in two years,” he said.Banerjee alleged that several police officers had been targeting TMC workers to secure favourable postings and warned that their actions would be scrutinised if the party returned to power. He also accused an IPS officer in Paschim Medinipur of targeting TMC workers despite having earlier congratulated him on the party’s expected electoral victory. The remarks come amid a political confrontation between the ruling BJP and the TMC following the arrest of former West Bengal minister Indranil Sen over alleged financial irregularities linked to Durga Puja preview shows and the sale of passes.

Adhikari has alleged that Sen may not have been the sole beneficiary of the suspected irregularities, claiming that the investigation could reach more prominent political figures, including former chief minister Mamata Banerjee. He has maintained that the law would take its course regardless of the influence of those under investigation.Hitting back at the BJP over Sen’s arrest, Abhishek Banerjee alleged that people who refused to compromise their conscience were being jailed, while those accused of serious offences were spared after joining the saffron party. The case centres on alleged irregularities involving MassArt Society, which investigators suspect collected money between 2022 and 2025 through passes for privileged entry to Durga Puja pandals and preview shows while creating a false impression of an association with UNESCO. The organisation’s financial transactions and the use of the funds collected are under investigation.
