Lucknow: Couples marked the occasion with expressions of love and togetherness as the city celebrated Karwa Chauth on Thursday. For several newlyweds, the festival held special significance. Vidisha Sharma and her husband observed a fast for each other and celebrated by preparing each other’s favourite dishes. Educator Manisha Singh travelled 120 km to Kanpur to be with her husband, saying she could not imagine breaking her fast away from him.Couples also used the occasion to reaffirm long-standing bonds. Sumit and Rachna Gupta, married for 21 years, observed the fast together and exchanged gifts, while newlywed Purnima Pillai, a Malayali married into a Punjabi family, experienced her first Karwa Chauth.Cloudy skies, however, dampened the traditional moon-sighting ritual. Many couples across the city, including at Marine Drive in Gomti Nagar, waited in vain for a glimpse of the moon and eventually broke their fast at the prescribed time. Some even relied on satellite images on their phones to complete the ritual.Despite the overcast conditions, the festival was marked by enthusiasm, devotion and a celebration of enduring relationships.
