Lucknow: Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said the MLC results reflected the people’s mandate against BJP’s misuse of administrative machinery and electoral malpractices. Claiming that the results signalled the beginning of political change in UP, he said the BJP had suffered a setback in several seats despite resorting to administrative pressure and irregularities to influence the electoral process.Addressing party workers, he attributed his party’s electoral performance to the trust of teachers and graduates and the hard work of party workers. He particularly cited the BJP’s defeat in both the Varanasi constituencies, claiming that the party failed to overturn the results even after a recount.“The people’s power has prevailed over the power of the ruling establishment,” he said, asserting that the outcome was an indication of the growing public discontent with the BJP government.Akhilesh described BJP as a “flop show”, claiming that its defeats in the MLC elections had set the stage for its defeat in the 2027 Assembly polls.
