Gurgaon: Two men died in separate accidents on Dwarka Expressway on Saturday, involving a scooter and a goods-carrying e-rickshaw, vehicles that are barred from using the high-speed corridor under traffic restrictions. In the first accident, a 33-year-old IT analyst, Tushar Joshi, died after a Thar allegedly rammed his scooter near Daulatabad Chowk on Oct 31. Tushar was heading to Dwarka to meet his friends when the collision occurred.According to the complaint filed by his father, Keshav Dutt Joshi (73), the Thar was being driven at high speed and negligently. Tushar sustained fatal injuries and was taken to the govt hospital in Sector 10, where doctors declared him dead.Tushar worked as an analyst with a private company and was the youngest of three siblings. His father, a retired Army non-commissioned officer who lives in BPTP Amstoria in Sector 102, said his son had left home to meet friends.Speaking to TOI, Keshav said the SUV driver, a young man aged around 27-28, had remained at the spot and appeared deeply shaken. “The Thar driver stayed at the spot and didn’t escape. He was shivering and continuously apologising to us. Our family has lost a son and it is heartbreaking to suffer such a shock at this age. Even by punishing the young Thar driver, my son won’t come back,” he said.Police said they received information from the Sector 10 govt hospital on Nov 1 about an unidentified man who had been brought dead after an accident near Daulatabad Chowk. An assistant sub-inspector reached the hospital to establish the victim’s identity. An emergency response vehicle team subsequently informed him about a collision between a Thar and a scooter. Police traced the scooter owner through registration records and contacted Keshav, who reached the hospital with his family and identified his son.Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered at Rajendra Park police station under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of BNS. ASI Manjeet Kumar is investigating the case. He did not respond to a query on whether the Thar driver had been arrested. In the second accident, 29-year-old Vikas Kumar, a resident of Bihar’s Samastipur district, died after an unidentified vehicle hit his goods-carrying e-rickshaw on Dwarka Expressway around 5pm on Oct 31.According to the complaint filed by his associate Chandreshwar Mahto, Vikas was transporting goods from Sadar market towards Sector 86. Mahto was travelling in another load-carrying e-rickshaw towards Sector 85 and was following him when an unidentified vehicle allegedly hit Vikas’s vehicle and fled.Mahto found Vikas lying near the road divider with serious injuries and took him to a govt hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Mahto approached Sector 10A police station on Nov 1 and lodged a complaint against the unidentified driver. An FIR was registered under sections 281 and 106 of BNS.Speaking to TOI, Mahto said Vikas is survived by his wife and three children. “I was a few metres behind him and thus could not see the vehicle properly, but it seemed to be a pick-up vehicle,” he said.A traffic police officer said enforcement against vehicles barred from using expressways was being carried out regularly, including through CCTV cameras. “We have installed multiple boards across the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and Dwarka Expressway to make people aware that two-wheelers, three-wheelers and other slow-moving vehicles are not allowed on fast-moving corridors. Regular challans are being issued through CCTV cameras. Commuters should also act responsibly,” the officer said. The incidents have brought the movement of two-wheelers and slow-moving vehicles on the expressway into focus, raising questions over enforcement and road safety.
