Railways to develop Rs 1000-cr network for coal transportation to Buxar thermal power plant

Buxar: Railways will develop a new railway network at an estimated cost of Rs 1,000 crore to streamline coal transportation to Chausa Thermal Power Plant in Buxar district. The project will include construction of a six-line crossing station at Pavni-Kamarpur, located between Buxar and Chausa, to facilitate the movement of coal-laden freight trains and ease congestion on the Buxar-DDU (Deen Dayal Upadhyaya) rail section.A major component of the project is a dedicated Rail-over-Rail (ROR) flyover for coal-laden freight trains. The facility will provide a separate route for freight movement, enabling coal rakes to reach the Chausa power plant without putting additional pressure on the main railway corridor. This is also expected to improve the operational flexibility of passenger trains on the section. At present, Pavni-Kamarpur functions as an Intermediate Block Post (IBP).It will be upgraded into a full-fledged crossing station with six railway lines, including the Up and Down main lines, a common loop line, a Down loop line and technical sidings. The station will have three platforms, each measuring between 590 and 600 metres in length. A station building measuring 40 metres by eight metres will also be constructed, along with two foot overbridges to facilitate passenger movement. The project also envisages extending the Up platform at Chausa railway station by around 300 metres. An underpass is proposed near level crossing gate number 74, while an overbridge or underpass is planned at level crossings 76 and 77.More than a dozen existing bridges will also be strengthened and widened to accommodate the proposed additional railway lines. The engineering plans for the project have received technical and administrative approval from the Danapur railway division and SJVN Thermal Private Limited (STPL). The entire project cost, including land acquisition expenses, will be borne by STPL.Saraswati Chandra, chief public relations officer of East Central Railway, confirmed on Sunday the development of Pavni-Kamarpur halt into a full-fledged six line station for Chausa power plant. The project is expected not only to ensure a smoother and more reliable supply of coal to the Chausa Thermal Power Plant but also to improve rail connectivity and encourage industrial activity in the region, said Mitesh Yadav HR head SJVN.
