Patna: Samastipur police claimed to have cracked the July 26 murder of farmer Raghuveer Sahni, arresting his son Shiv Shankar Sahni from Surat on Oct 1. Police said Shiv Shankar allegedly drew inspiration from a popular Bollywood film, switched off his phone in Surat, travelled nearly 2,000km to his village, killed his sleeping father with an axe and returned to Surat.Raghuveer was sleeping outside his house in Darwa village under Halai police station on July 26 when he was allegedly attacked with an axe taken from inside the house. He suffered four blows to the head and died. The recovery of the weapon led police to suspect someone familiar with the family.Patori SDPO BK Medhavi said Shiv Shankar admitted his involvement during interrogation. “Shiv Shankar had travelled from Surat to Patna by train. From Patna, he went to Hajipur and then to Patori. Around 8 pm, he allegedly got down at Patori and took an e-rickshaw to Jorpura Chowk. From there, instead of taking a direct route, he allegedly walked nearly four kilometres through fields to reach his village. He reached home around midnight,” Medhavi said.Police said his phone later showed a Patori location before going offline. It came online in Surat nearly 36 hours later. He also skipped his father’s last rites.Medhavi said disputes with his father and wife, besides a possible land dispute, were being investigated as motives.
