Gurgaon: MCM commissioner Pradeep Singh has directed the civic body and GMDA officials to complete ongoing road construction works within stipulated deadlines and shut down all unauthorised ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants in the city within 15 days. Singh issued the directions during a joint meeting of MCM and GMDA officials here on Monday to review measures being implemented under directives of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).At present, there are 32 RMC plants operating within the jurisdiction of MCM, out of which only two are authorised. The civic body in Sept this year razed around 10 such unauthorised RMC plants. Moreover, the commissioner directed officials to strictly enforce CAQM orders and ensure dust-control measures at construction sites, along with steps to improve air quality and protect the environment. He also ordered regular monitoring of construction sites and strict action against violations.Officials also said the civic body will undertake deep cleaning of road edges across the municipal limits. Officials have been instructed to remove accumulated dust and debris from roadsides as part of measures to reduce dust-related air pollution. “I have directed officials to shut down all illegal RMC plants within 15 days. Dust emissions from RMC plants contribute to air pollution in surrounding areas,” said the MCM commissioner.Officials were further instructed to monitor trucks carrying building materials into the municipal limits and ensure that they are properly covered. The commissioner assigned the engineering and sanitation wings joint responsibility for maintaining cleanliness across the municipal area. All assistant sanitary inspectors (ASIs), junior engineers (JEs), sanitary inspectors (SIs) and sub-divisional officers (SDOs) were directed to ensure sanitation in their respective wards.“If waste is found burning in any ward, the concerned ASI will be held responsible, according to the directions issued at the meeting. If waste burning is found at the same location for a second time, the concerned SI, JE and SDO will be held accountable,” Singh said.
