City colleges engage students in breast cancer, drug abuse awareness drives

Patna: Two city colleges on Tuesday organised student-led programmes to raise awareness about breast cancer and drug abuse through creative communication and participation.NSS Unit-II of Magadh Mahila College, Patna University, organised a “Breast Cancer Awareness – Reel Making Activity” under the theme “Together Against Breast Cancer” to educate students on risk factors, early detection, prevention and the need for timely medical consultation.Students created short reels focusing on breast self-awareness, regular medical check-ups, healthy lifestyle practices and overcoming fear and stigma linked to the disease.The initiative also aimed to use digital platforms to spread life-saving health information. Adiba (Zoology, Semester III) won the first prize, followed by Mahi Lal (Psychology, Semester I) and Darshika (Botany, Semester III).At the College of Commerce, Arts and Science, Patna, a drug awareness programme was organised in collaboration with the Prohibition & State Narcotics Control Bureau, Bihar. The session highlighted the health, psychological and social consequences of substance abuse and urged young people to resist peer pressure, harmful influences and the lure of drugs.Maya Shankar, secretary, All India Women’s Conference, Patna, appealed to students to adopt the message “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life” and promote healthy living. Students, teachers and non-teaching staff attended in large numbers and took a pledge to spread awareness against drug abuse.
