Lucknow: MLA Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’ will officially take charge as Uttar Pradesh Congress president around noon on Sunday, an official spokesperson said.A three-time MLA from Rampur Khas in Pratapgarh and daughter of senior Congress neta Pramod Tiwari, Mishra succeeds Ajay Rai, who has headed the state unit since Aug 2023. She has served as Congress Legislature Party leader in the UP assembly since 2019.Her appointment comes as Congress looks to strengthen its organisation across Uttar Pradesh and consolidate its position ahead of the next Assembly polls. The party has also appointed Saharanpur MP Imran Masood as working president, adding another senior neta to its state leadership team.For Congress, the immediate task will be to strengthen its grassroots network, mobilise workers and improve coordination among functionaries across the state.The party will also have to balance its organisational expansion with its alliance strategy. Congress and the Samajwadi Party contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections together in Uttar Pradesh, and seat-sharing for the 2027 polls is expected to be an important part of their preparations.Mishra’s priorities include strengthening the organisation across all 403 assembly constituencies and building confidence among party workers. Her tenure will be closely linked to how the party translates its organisational efforts and alliance arrangements into a statewide campaign.
