Noida: Traffic police have issued an advisory urging commuters to check emission norms of vehicles before heading to Delhi as restrictions on the entry of non-BS VI-compliant vehicles into Delhi come into effect from Sunday.Delhi govt will bar vehicles registered outside the national capital and not compliant with BS-VI emission standards from entering the city till Jan 31, 2027, in a move that is likely to affect commuters, transporters, and businesses across Noida and Ghaziabad. There will be no restrictions on BS VI-compliant compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric vehicles. The restrictions are aimed at curbing vehicular emissions, a major contributor to deteriorating air quality in the region.Over 4 lakh vehicles in Noida and Greater Noida, more than half of them BS-IV, fall below BS-VI standards, while Ghaziabad has around 4 lakh such vehicles.Motorists travelling to destinations beyond Delhi have been advised to avoid entering the capital and instead use alternative routes via Noida Expressway or Yamuna Expressway to Zero Point, proceed through Pari Chowk, Kasna and Sirsa, and then access the Eastern Peripheral Expressway to continue their journey.A senior traffic police officer said restrictions on older vehicles were also in force within Noida under the existing pollution-control measures. “Petrol vehicles that are more than 15 years old and diesel vehicles that are more than 10 years old are prohibited from operating on public roads within the district’s limits. Drivers and vehicle owners will be held responsible for violations,” the officer said. The traffic police also urged residents to use public transport for essential travel wherever possible to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads and help limit pollution.
