MCG nod for debris collection up to 500 tonnes daily
The decision comes days after Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra folded her hands in front of MCG officials and asked them to address sanitation issues in the city

Gurgaon: MCG’s Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) has approved door-to-door collection of up to 500 tonnes of construction waste per day at an estimated cost of Rs 4.3 crore. The decision was taken at the 10th meeting of the committee, chaired by Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra, on Tuesday. Councillors said the change in the debris collection system is aimed at ensuring more organised collection and management of construction and demolition debris so that it does not accumulate on roads, vacant plots and public spaces.Apart from this, the committee has also approved nine works related to sanitation, solid waste and demolition waste management at an estimated cost of Rs 47.3 crore. Among the key decisions was approval for additional manpower and machinery, including tractor trolleys and earthmovers, for sanitation services in all six municipal zones. An allocation of Rs 4.6 crore has been approved for each of the six zones, taking the total expenditure under this component to about Rs 27.6 crore. In the last House meeting, held on Oct 1, MCG had decided that for each of the 36 wards, there would be a dedicated sanitation workforce which would include 50 sanitation workers, three tractor trolleys and one earthmover. Earlier in the same meeting, the mayor had stood up from her chair, folded her hands and asked MCG officials to address the persistent sanitation issues in the city.“We convened the F&CC meeting especially to accord approvals to the sanitation-related arrangements, which were discussed in the last House meeting held recently. The development works of the city will be taken up soon by F&CC in another meeting,” said deputy mayor Anoop Singh.Another proposal approved by the committee involves construction of four civil infrastructure facilities for processing daily waste. The project has been allocated about Rs 10 crore. The committee also approved the operation and maintenance of mechanical road-sweeping machines for six months at a cost of Rs 5.6 crore from Oct to March 2027. The civic body said regular deployment of the machines would improve cleaning on major roads and other identified areas.Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra said strengthening sanitation across all six zones was a priority for the corporation. “Providing additional manpower and machinery in all six zones is an important decision to strengthen the sanitation system,” she said. She added that door-to-door demolition waste collection, additional waste-processing infrastructure and mechanical road sweeping would help improve civic services.MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said the corporation was working to strengthen sanitation and waste-management systems across the city. “The works approved by the F&CC will provide additional resources for sanitation operations in all six zones,” he said.
