26 private ambulances fined, 6 impounded in Ghaziabad crackdown on unauthorised operators

Ghaziabad: At least 26 private ambulances were issued challans and six others were impounded during a special enforcement drive by the Ghaziabad transport department against unauthorised and irregular ambulance operators on Oct 5.The crackdown was carried out to ensure that ambulances operating in the district comply with transport regulations and prescribed safety standards.According to the department, enforcement teams conducted inspections at hospitals, private medical institutions and major roads across the district.During the checks, officials examined documents and other mandatory requirements of ambulances, including vehicle registration, fitness certificates, insurance, permits and compliance with prescribed safety norms.The department said 26 ambulances were found violating rules and were issued challans during the drive. Six ambulances were found operating in violation of regulations or irregularly and were subsequently impounded. Further legal action is being initiated against the vehicles in accordance with the applicable rules.Vineet Kumar Mishra, assistant regional transport officer (Enforcement), said the special drive was aimed at ensuring that ambulances, which provide an essential emergency service, operate in accordance with the law and do not compromise the safety of patients or other road users.The department also inspected ambulances owned by or operating under contracts with private hospitals and medical institutions.Officials added that the crackdown would continue in the coming days, with further checks planned to identify and take action against ambulances operating without proper documentation or in violation of regulatory requirements.The enforcement drive comes amid the need to ensure that vehicles designated for emergency medical services remain fit, legally authorised and equipped to transport patients safely. The department said no negligence or violation of rules in the operation of ambulances would be tolerated.Currently, there are total 242 ambulances registered in Ghaziabad.
