tnnLucknow: A three-day training programme on ‘Best practices in prison administration’ concluded at the UP prison headquarters on Wednesday with officials stressing the need to shift the focus of prison management from punishment to rehabilitation and social reintegration of inmates.The programme brought together prison officers from several states to discuss correctional practices. Addressing the valedictory session, former director general of prisons and current UP subordinate services selection commission chairman SN Sabat said modern prison administration extends beyond ‘crime and punishment’ and must prioritize reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration. He urged officials to continuously upgrade their knowledge and professional skills.Director general, prisons and correctional services, PC Meena said the programme highlighted successful practices adopted across states, including Telangana, Punjab and MP.
