Gorakhpur: The Gorakhpur Development Authority (GDA) has finalised plans for ‘Gurukul City’, a flagship residential township envisioned as the foundation of New Gorakhpur, in line with chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s directive to promote planned urban expansion in the city.GDA is preparing to launch the project by Diwali, with the inauguration proposed to be carried out by the chief minister. In the first phase, a residential township spread across nearly 100 acres will be developed, while the entire project is planned over approximately 400 acres in phases, officials said.According to GDA officials, Gurukul City will come up along the Sonauli Road corridor, covering areas including Maniram, Balapar and Rahmatnagar. The project has been conceived to meet the rising demand for quality housing in Gorakhpur, which has emerged as a major centre for education, healthcare, trade and industry in eastern Uttar Pradesh over the past decade.Officials said the city’s improved road, rail and air connectivity, along with the presence of universities, engineering and medical institutions, has increased its appeal as a residential destination for people from neighbouring districts and even bordering areas of Bihar.Following approval of the layout by the GDA board, formalities ahead of the launch are being completed. The authority is also working to secure approval from the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) before the project is formally unveiled. The proposed township is located near Mahayogi Gorakhnath University, the second battalion of the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force, and several prominent private schools. GDA officials said Gurukul City is being designed as a modern urban township with citizen-friendly amenities, environmentally sustainable infrastructure and a blend of contemporary development and traditional values.
