Man arrested for allegedly strangling wife over domestic dispute in Bhojpur

Ara: A 27-year-old man was arrested for allegedly strangling his wife to death following a domestic dispute at Sultanpur village under Garhani police station in Bhojpur district in the early hours of Thursday. The deceased was identified as Reena Devi (26), wife of Mukesh Kumar. The couple had been married for eight years.Ara Sadar SDPO-1 Sushil Kumar said police received information around 1am that a man had allegedly killed his wife after assaulting her at Sultanpur village. A police team was immediately sent to the spot to verify the information and apprehend the accused.Accordng to police, preliminary investigation suggested that Mukesh and Reena had a heated argument over a domestic dispute on early Thursday. The altercation allegedly turned violent, following which Mukesh strangled his wife. Mukesh was subsequently arrested. An FSL team also visited the spot and collected samples for forensic examination.The SDPO said an FIR was lodged against Mukesh on the complaint of the deceased’s brother, Mithilesh Kumar Singh, and further investigation was underway.The investigating officer, Ankit Aryan, additional SHO of Garhani police station, told TOI that Mukesh had earlier been jailed three times in separate cases, mostly on charges related to consumption of liquor or drugs. Police said their preliminary investigation had so far found no indication that dowry demand was a motive behind the alleged murder.
