Danapur clerk held for taking Rs 20K bribe

Patna: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) on Thursday arrested Vijay Kumar, a lower division clerk at the sub-divisional animal husbandry office in Danapur, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. The bureau said the clerk had demanded the money for facilitating the withdrawal of Rs 6 lakh from a govt employee’s GPF account.Vijay was caught near a betel shop at Patna AIIMS Golambar by a VIB trap team.According to the bureau, complainant Rajendra Prasad, a resident of Nisarpura under Naubatpur police station area, had alleged that the clerk demanded a bribe for facilitating the withdrawal of Rs 6 lakh from his General Provident Fund (GPF) account.The bureau verified the complaint and said it found prima facie evidence of the alleged bribe demand. Following the verification, Vigilance police station case no. 118/26, dated Oct 7, was registered against Vijay.A trap team was subsequently constituted under the leadership of DSP Asif Iqbal Mehdi following a request by investigating officer inspector Jahangir Ansari.The team laid a trap and allegedly caught Vijay accepting Rs 20,000 near the betel shop at AIIMS Golambar. He was arrested immediately after the alleged transaction.The bureau said this was its 108th trap case, with 108 accused arrested while allegedly accepting bribes in its anti-corruption operations so far.Vijay will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Patna after interrogation. Further investigation is underway.
