Lucknow: Pointing to glaring irregularities in the recruitment of nursing staff at King George Medical University (KGMU), Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said that once the probe begins, it would have far-reaching consequences. He said the issue was concerning as getting less-qualified individuals appointed through the back door to posts in the medical and healthcare sector was a direct threat to human lives.“Of the total recruitment to 1,276 nursing posts at KGMU, over 500 candidates from a particular coaching centre in Jaipur have been selected. This is the latest example of how mass irregularities are rampant in recruitments under the BJP government,” Akhilesh said in a statement on Thursday.“If one looks at the recruitment of nursing staff under the BJP govt, this is not the first instance of bungling. Earlier, 700 candidates from coaching institutes directly associated with unregistered and underground associates of the BJP were appointed during a recruitment process,” the SP chief said, adding that this was the outcome of mutual give-and-take between the BJP and its associates who are good at committing scams.“First it was Lohia Institute, then PGI and Saifai Medical College, and now it is KGMU, where the recruitment of paramedical and nursing staff is facing allegations of bungling. There is a pattern to these incidents and criminal involvement of sangi-sathi (associates),” Akhilesh said. The SP chief further added that it was now to be seen whether the investigating agencies would go to the very root of the alleged scam at KGMU or whether the matter would get buried under tall claims of a ‘threadbare probe’, eventually resulting in clean chits being given to those actually involved in the irregularities.SP’s statewide ‘Save Democracy Week’The Samajwadi Party’s ‘Save Democracy Week’ agitations, launched on Oct 2, culminated on Thursday with protest marches by party office-bearers, functionaries and cadres across the state to highlight alleged mass irregularities in electoral rolls. In Lucknow, SP state secretary and former MLC Dr Madhu Gupta, district president Faqir Siddiqui, city MLA Arman Khan, MLA candidate Pooja Shukla, senior party functionary Anurag Misra and several other party office-bearers took out a foot march from the party’s district office to the Collectorate, raising ‘Vote chor, gaddi chor’ (Vote thief, resign) slogans. While staging the sit-in, general secretary Gaurav Singh read out Article 326 of the Constitution, while Lucknow Bar Association general secretary Jitendra Yadav burnt an effigy of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.Similar protests were held across the state during the week-long agitation.
