Eight meat shops fined Rs 6,000 for violating norms

Varanasi: The Varanasi Municipal Corporation team carried out a major inspection drive against meat shops near Andhrapul on Thursday. During the drive, eight meat shops were fined a total of Rs 6,000 for violating norms and selling meat in the open.The campaign was conducted on the instructions of municipal commissioner Himanshu Nagpal. It was led by joint municipal commissioner and Varunapar zone zonal officer Jitendra Anand, along with veterinary and welfare officer Dr Vijay Amritraj.During the inspection, several permanent meat shops were found operating without the curtains required under the rules, leaving the meat visible from outside. Unsanitary conditions were also found around the shops.Dr Vijay Amritra said that selling meat in the open and failing to install curtains were direct violations of regulations. He added that challans had been issued to eight shops in the Andhrapul area and that the campaign would continue to ensure cleanliness and compliance with rules across the city.
