LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government provides financial assistance to farmers through agricultural input subsidies and related schemes. However, “Agricultural Input Subsidy Scheme” can refer to two different types of assistance: compensation for crop losses caused by natural calamities, and subsidies that help farmers purchase agricultural inputs, seeds, fertilisers, machinery and other equipment.1. Agricultural Input Subsidy for crop lossesThis assistance is intended to help farmers recover when crops are damaged by natural calamities such as floods, droughts and other notified disasters. It is administered through the state’s disaster-relief framework, subject to applicable government norms and eligibility conditions. The UP Relief Commissioner’s portal provides the relevant agricultural relief information. The amount payable depends on the applicable relief norms, the nature of the crop, the affected area and the extent of damage. Historical relief documents list different assistance rates for rainfed, irrigated and perennial crops; these should not be assumed to be the current rates without checking the latest order.2. How to apply for agricultural input subsidy
