'Am I next?': CJP invokes women’s safety, questions Delhi Police’s handling of protests
Amid rising concerns for women’s safety, the CJP is preparing to stage a protest in New Delhi on October 10 at Jantar Mantar

NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has questioned Delhi Police over its handling of law and order and women’s safety, sharing a post on X showing women carrying banners reading “AM I NEXT?” ahead of its proposed October 10 protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.In its post, the party questioned whether authorities were treating peaceful demonstrations as a more serious issue than crimes against women.“Delhi Police’s handling of law and order has forced women to come out carrying banners that read “AM I NEXT?” Crimes against Women continue to horrify Delhi every single day. Is a peaceful protest more “SERIOUS” than this?” the CJP posted.”

CJP raises women’s safety ahead of October 10 protest

The post comes amid a wider row over police conduct during recent demonstrations in the capital. Three women journalists had alleged sexual harassment by Delhi Police personnel during a protest on October 3.Their complaints were transferred to the Crime Branch for further action.On October 9, the National Human Rights Commission took suo motu cognisance of the journalists’ allegations and sought a detailed report from the Delhi Police commissioner within two weeks.

Delhi Police denies permission for CJP protest

The CJP’s post comes ahead of its proposed October 10 demonstration at Jantar Mantar, where it plans to demand accountability from Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.Delhi Police has denied permission for the protest, citing the late submission of the application, alleged non-compliance with directions during an earlier demonstration, and concerns over public safety, law and order and traffic management.

Heavy security planned for October 10 protest

Delhi Police has prepared an extensive security plan ahead of the proposed demonstration, with barricades, checkpoints and preventive measures planned across the capital.Nearly 35,000 security personnel, including Delhi Police and paramilitary forces, were expected to be deployed amid projections of a large turnout.
