Art show at Bihar Museum reflects changing society
An exhibition at the Bihar Museum

Patna: More than three decades of artistic exploration by printmaker and artist Rakhi Kumari are being showcased in AdrishyaChhaap(InvisibleImprint), a retrospective exhibition at Bihar Museum. The exhibition traces her creative journey through printmaking, painting, drawing and sculpture.Organised by Bihar Museum, the exhibition was inaugurated on Oct 6 by governor Syed Ata Hasnain. Kumari, who is also principal of the College of Arts and Crafts, Patna, has developed a distinctive body of work drawing from folk traditions such as Madhubani and Tikuli, as well as the visual language of everyday life.Women and their experiences feature prominently in her drawings and prints. Her works explore identity, freedom, family and changing social realities, giving them both personal and wider social resonance. For Kumari, an artwork is not merely an artistic composition but also a document of its time, society and culture. Her works bring together personal observations and broader social concerns, reflecting everyday experiences, cultural memories and changes in society over her three-decade-long practice.Bihar Museum director general Anjani Kumar Singh said the retrospective gives visitors an opportunity to trace Kumari’s creative journey and understand different stages of her work. He said the exhibition also highlights her experimentation with various mediums and engagement with Bihar’s artistic and cultural traditions.Singh said such exhibitions could encourage young artists to explore different forms and techniques rather than confining themselves to a single medium. The exhibition will continue till Nov 5.
