Lucknow: Congress on Wednesday alleged discrepancies in the electoral roll of Pilibhit Sadar assembly constituency, claiming that voters’ names and other details had been changed even after the final electoral roll was published. The party said it would explore legal action and demanded an inquiry into the alleged changes.Addressing a news conference, Congress’s UP in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam, AICC social media chairperson Supriya Shrinate, state president Aradhana Mishra Mona and working president Imran Masood questioned the voter list revision process and urged voters to verify their electoral details.“Protecting democracy is not the responsibility of any one political party. It is the responsibility of every citizen,” Gautam said, praising party workers in Pilibhit for examining electoral records and flagging alleged discrepancies. He urged voters to check their names and other details against their Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers on Election Commission’s website.Shrinate alleged that the same EPIC number had appeared against different names and fathers’ names in voter records.“If the EPIC number remains the same but another person’s name is entered against it, the original voter could face an identity mismatch at the polling station and be deprived of the right to vote,” she said. She pointed out that the BJP MLA from Pilibhit Sadar had won the 2022 assembly election by 6,930 votes and said the alleged discrepancies warranted scrutiny.“The question is how changes could have been made after the final Special Intensive Revision (SIR) electoral roll was published on April 10, 2026,” she said.Congress also questioned who had authorised the alleged changes and under what procedure they were made.Mishra said the party would seek legal advice and pursue its objections through its organisational network.“Our workers and the entire organisation will fight against the irregularities we have flagged in the SIR process,” she said. The party demanded that district magistrates and sub-divisional magistrates clarify whether changes had been made to voter records. Imran Masood urged citizens to remain vigilant and verify their electoral details.Congress said the alleged discrepancies in Pilibhit warranted scrutiny in other constituencies as well.
