Criminals now selling bananas in Uttar Pradesh: Harsh Gujral to CM
Comedian Harsh Gujral touches the feet of CM Yogi Adityanath during the TOI Youth Icons Summit & Awards in Lucknow on Tuesday

Lucknow: Comedian Harsh Gujral had the audience in splits at the TOI Youth Icons Summit & Awards 2026, UP Chapter, when he used a humorous anecdote to praise Uttar Pradesh’s changing law-and-order landscape.Sharing the stage with chief minister Yogi Adityanath after receiving the Creator of the Year award, Gujral recalled a conversation with a fruit seller during one of his visits to Lucknow for a performance.Gujral said he casually asked the vendor whether law and order had improved in recent years. The seller replied that things had changed significantly after 2017. When Gujral asked how he could say that with such certainty, the vendor’s response set up the punchline.“The reason he knew was because he used to be a criminal before 2017 and he now sells bananas,” Gujral recounted, triggering peals of laughter. The witty remark quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the event, with clips of the exchange circulating widely on social media. The anecdote, delivered in Gujral’s trademark deadpan style, added a light-hearted touch to the event.
