Dotasra alleges political vendetta as Raj govt scraps Sikar master plan

Jaipur: Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra Friday accused the Bhajan Lal Sharma govt of political vendetta over the scrapping of Sikar’s master plan, alleging that the move would benefit real estate companies, agents and contractors at the cost of the city’s planned development. The state urban development department withdrew the Sikar Master Plan 2041 under the Rajasthan Urban Improvement Act, 1959, on Oct 22, as notified on Feb 18, 2026. The plan was notified on June 25, 2025.“They can’t scrap it in the middle of the model code of conduct. This is illegal,” Dotasra said.Dotasra alleged that the BJP govt kept the plan pending for around two and a half years before notifying it, only to scrap it within months. He said the previous Congress govt had prepared the plan in accordance with prescribed rules, spending around Rs 5 crore on its preparation. He alleged that the plan was scrapped to benefit real estate companies, agents and contractors. It envisaged the overall development of Sikar, with provisions approved by the competent authorities after taking into account the aspirations of the city’s residents, he said.“The plan was meant for keeping the growing coaching centres with capacity of 10 lakh students, flyovers, new colonies, water bodies, green hubs. They scrap it just to penalise Sikar for showing its faith in Congress party,” Dotasra said.Questioning the need to scrap the entire plan, Dotasra said that if the govt intended to prepare a master plan for 2047, it could have revised the existing plan instead of withdrawing it altogether. He alleged that the decision would delay development and waste public money.Dotasra also linked the move to the BJP’s electoral setbacks in Sikar, alleging that the govt was seeking to settle political scores following the party’s defeats in recent local body elections, as well as the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in the constituency.
