Lucknow: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has declared voting at three polling stations in Agra teachers’ constituency null and void and ordered repolling on Oct 26 in view of alleged irregularities.Uttar Pradesh chief electoral officer Navdeep Rinwa said on Saturday that repolling would be conducted between 8 am and 4 pm at polling station number 20 at Tehsil premises, Kheragarh; number 21 at Kshetra panchayat office, Saiyan; and number 26 at Kshetra panchayat office, Fatehabad. The Commission invoked Section 58A(2)(a) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, to invalidate the earlier polling.Rinwa said officials and personnel whose irregularities or unlawful activities necessitated repolling would not be assigned any election-related duties during fresh voting. The Commission has also directed that accountability be fixed for those responsible. The Agra divisional commissioner has been instructed to conduct an immediate inquiry and submit a report to the ECI by Oct 25.During repolling, indelible ink will be applied to voters’ right index fingers.Rinwa said counting would begin only after the Commission grants permission following completion of repolling at all three stations.
