FIR against ex-Central Bank manager, five others for ₹23.09 lakh misappropriation in Deoria

Lucknow: Police have registered an FIR against a former Central Bank of India branch manager and five others for allegedly misappropriating ₹23.09 lakh deposited by customers through a customer service centre linked to the bank’s Salempur branch in Deoria district. The case was filed on the orders of a court after a complaint by Ganesh Chaurasia, the operator of the customer service centre. Chaurasia, a resident of Barai Tola in Rawatpar Pandey village under Lar police station limits, said he has been running the centre on Sohanag Road in Salempur since 2012.In his complaint, Chaurasia alleged he came in contact with the then branch manager, Amit Kumar Rakesh, in Aug 2020. He said the manager told him that senior bank officials had issued directions and later facilitated setting up a counter inside the bank premises.Chaurasia alleged that between Aug 17, 2020, and April 2023, customers’ deposits amounting to about ₹23.09 lakh were transferred without authorisation to multiple accounts, including those of the former manager’s wife, relatives and other individuals, and the money was subsequently misappropriated. He claimed that when he questioned the discrepancies, he was told they were due to employee issues and server problems, but repeated efforts to resolve the matter did not help. Chaurasia said he approached senior bank officials and the police, but no effective action followed, prompting him to move the court. The FIR names Amit Kumar Rakesh of Panchu in Nawada district, Bihar; his wife Ekta Kumari; Niranjan Kumar of Nawada, Bihar; Ramesh Kumar Kushwaha of Garhwa Dharampur; Parmanand Yadav of Garhwa Mishra; and Anurag Gaur alias Sonu of Teacher Colony, Salempur.Circle Officer Gaurav Singh confirmed the registration of the case and said an investigation is underway.
