NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders, including Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das and Ratna Singh will visit Parliamentary Street Police Station at 10am on Monday to seek a date for a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar, Ranka said in a post on X.“Delhi Police can give us a date for Jantar Mantar in 24 hours, or we will announce our own protest call,” CJP said, adding that Ranka, Das, Singh and other CJP leaders would visit the police station to seek permission.The move comes a day after Delhi Police detained more than 7,000 protesters across the capital as they tried to reach Jantar Mantar for a demonstration demanding the resignation of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls.CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, Ranka and Das were among those detained on Saturday. They were later released after being produced before an executive magistrate.After his release, Dipke vowed to return to the streets and said he would not be intimidated by the government. “Throw us in jail not just once, but a hundred times,” he said.Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called for a march to the Supreme Court on Monday, urging citizens, opposition parties and civil society groups to join the protest over alleged “vote chori” and demand an end to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and Kumar’s resignation.The Supreme Court on Sunday directed authorities to lift prohibitory orders imposed around its complex, stressing that access to justice must remain unhindered and peaceful citizens should not face illegal detention.
