Ghaziabad: Residents of Indirapuram have flagged poor traffic management, alleging that unauthorised parking on footpaths and rampant wrong-side driving have been worsening congestion in the area. They said the problem is particularly acute at busy locations such as the intersection near Cambridge School and Swarn Jayanti Park, where vehicles parked on footpaths obstruct movement and add to traffic snarls. In a letter addressed to the traffic inspector of the area, residents said approximately 100 to 150 motorcycles occupy the footpath opposite Cambridge School daily. “It not only obstructs pedestrian movement but also endangers the safety of both pedestrians and vehicles by causing significant road congestion,” stated Sudarshan Awasthi, general secretary of Indirapuram Welfare Association. “We call for urgent action by traffic police to ensure the safety of public,” he added. Some other residents also voiced concerns about motorists frequently driving in the wrong direction at the intersection in front of Swarn Jayanti Park. They urged traffic police to implement stricter enforcement measures, including issuing fines for traffic violations. Residents also proposed regular monitoring by traffic police officers and personnel during peak hours and the initiation of a special traffic enforcement drive to ensure compliance with traffic regulations. “The goal here is not to disrupt anyone’s daily commute but to create a safer and more organised traffic environment for all road users. Wrong-side driving is a serious threat to public safety,” Awasthi added. The call for action stems from a growing commitment among residents to improve their road and footpath infrastructure and safety standards. By highlighting these issues, residents hope to foster collaboration with local authorities to bring about meaningful changes in traffic management in Indirapuram.Traffic police assured all assistance in the matter and promised to take steps to ensure compliance by motorists and repeat offenders.
