Patna: Jan Suraaj on Sunday demanded the disqualification of newly elected Independent MLCs Bansidhar Brajwasi and Rahul Raj under the anti-defection law, a day after they publicly announced joining the ruling BJP.The party said it would petition the legislative council chairperson, seeking cancellation of their membership, and approach the high court if no action was taken.Addressing a news conference, Jan Suraaj national spokesperson Kumar Saurabh cited the Tenth Schedule and Articles 102(2) and 192(2) of the Constitution, arguing that an Independent member elected to the legislature would lose membership upon joining a political party. He alleged that the BJP had used money and power to influence the electoral mandate of teachers’ and graduates’ voters.Saurabh also displayed photographs and a social media post from BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi’s verified account announcing the induction of both MLCs into the party. He alleged that the post was subsequently edited after Jan Suraaj raised objections and demanded an apology from Saraogi.Jan Suraaj legal cell member Kumar Amit said the party would seek an inquiry into the matter and cancellation of the two MLCs‘ membership. He said the chairperson was required to decide the petition within three months and that the party would approach the high court if necessary.
