Ludhiana: A major fire broke out in a garment printing unit on Bahadur Ke Road on Sunday afternoon, gutting machinery and a large stock of materials. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.Fire officials were alerted around 1.40pm about the blaze at RV Knit India. Upon arrival, firefighters found flames engulfing a portion of the ground floor, though the rest of the facility and the upper two floors remained safe.Firefighters took three hours and over 15 rounds of fire tenders to douse the intense blaze, drawing water from two nearby units. Dense black smoke and extreme heat hampered the firefighting efforts, though Sunday’s light traffic eased the movement of emergency vehicles. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown. The owner and workers stated that the unit was closed at the time and they were unaware of how the blaze started.“There was intense heat and when we reached the heat could be felt from the main gate only. We started dousing the flames and gradually controlled it in three hours. We got water from nearby two units and more than 15 rounds of fire tenders were used in controlling the incident,” said sub-fire officer Rajan Sharma.
