Lucknow: The southwest monsoon completely withdrew from UP on Saturday, two days ahead of its normal withdrawal date, ending its three-month stay in the state. It had entered UP on June 30, 12 days later than its normal arrival date of June 18.The withdrawal is expected to bring mainly dry weather in the coming days. Day temperatures are likely to rise gradually, while nights are expected to remain relatively cooler. Humidity may also increase during the day.According to Regional Meteorological Centre, Lucknow, the monsoon began withdrawing from western UP on Sept 23, but its further retreat remained stalled. It finally withdrew from the remaining parts of the state on Oct 3.The state received 802.9mm rainfall between June and Sept against the long-period average of 746.2mm, recording an 8% surplus. East UP received 817mm against the normal 799.2mm, a 2% surplus, while west UP recorded 782.7mm against 672mm, a 16% surplus.Rainfall, however, remained uneven. Chitrakoot recorded the highest rainfall at 1,358.1mm, while 14 districts received more than 1,000mm during the season. Lucknow was also among the districts that received above-normal rainfall.As per RMC’s rainfall categories, 29 districts recorded normal rainfall and 17 recorded excess rainfall. Nine districts recorded large excess rainfall, while 16 districts received deficient rainfall. Deoria, Kushinagar, Ghaziabad and Shamli recorded large deficient rainfall.Mohammad Danish, senior scientist at RMC, said, “As the monsoon retreated from the state, the temperature and humidity are likely to rise during the days but nights will be relatively cooler. However, the weather will be pleasant after a month.”
