Gurgaon: GMDA is planning a new service road along the existing sectors 99-102 dividing road to improve local connectivity and reduce traffic pressure on the main carriageway. The proposed service road will provide an additional route for local traffic and improve access to the residential societies located along the stretch, including Heritage Max, Suncity Avenue, G-99 and Emaar Gurgaon Green, among others. The road is a key link for residents travelling towards the Dwarka Expressway and the Upper Dwarka Expressway.Under the project, around 1.1 km of service road will be constructed on the right-hand side and 644 metres on the left-hand side of the existing road. Besides the service road, GMDA will construct a footpath-cum-surface drain and provide streetlights and road-safety furniture along the stretch. The project has been estimated to cost around Rs 7.2 crore and is expected to take about 10 months to complete. The tender for the work has been floated, while officials said there is currently no hindrance at the site.A GMDA official said the available space along the existing road would be utilised for the service road. “The service road will cater to local traffic and provide a separate movement corridor for residents of the adjoining sectors. At present, there is no land-related hindrance at the site, so the work can be taken up as planned,” he said.Residents, however, have raised concerns over the condition of the existing main road, citing potholes, dust, lack of streetlights and inadequate drainage causing daily hardship.PN Mishra, general secretary of the RWA at Suncity Avenue, Sector 102, said the road had not undergone comprehensive resurfacing since residents moved into the society. “We shifted to Suncity Avenue 102 at the end of 2019 and have never seen the 75-metre GMDA road in front of our society being recarpeted. Pothole-filling work has happened, but the overall condition of the road has deteriorated. Heavy dust pollution, absence of streetlights and greenery, and lack of proper drainage remain concerns,” he said.GMDA said it is working on strengthening and upgrading the existing main carriageway along the stretch as well. According to officials, a proposal for the work was prepared in November last year, after which the estimate was revised. The revised estimate is around Rs 17 crore and is currently under administrative approval. Once administrative approval is obtained, it will proceed with the tendering process. The main carriageway work was initially proposed as a special repair project with an estimated cost of around Rs 8.5 crore. The scope was subsequently revised from routine surface-level carpeting to strengthening and upgradation of the existing carriageway, considering the heavy movement on the stretch.
