Over 6,000 take part in FIT Gurgaon Marathon

Gurgaon: More than 6,000 people took part in the inaugural FIT Gurgaon Marathon at Cyber Hub on Sunday, with residents, doctors, caregivers, children, families and fitness enthusiasts joining races across four categories.Actor and endurance athlete Milind Soman, who flagged off the marathon and also took part in a 10km run, said the participation showed how running could bring people together and encouraged participants to make physical activity part of their everyday lives.The event featured 3km, 5km, 10km and 21.1km races, catering to both experienced runners and first-time participants. The marathon offered a total cash prize of Rs 2 lakh across the half-marathon and 10km categories, with separate awards for men and women in the open and above-50 age groups.Mohan won the men’s half-marathon in 1:12:31, while Sanjana Singh topped the women’s category in 1:23:48. Aman Kumar won the men’s 10km race in 33:17 and Swati was the women’s winner in 46:28. In the 5km category, Arshlan Khan recorded the fastest men’s time of 16:01, while Myra Singh topped the women’s field in 23:49.The organisers said medical arrangements included six designated medical points and ambulances along the route, with emergency support positioned at regular intervals. Medical teams and hydration stations were also deployed to assist participants.More than 500 doctors and caregivers and 250 children supported by NGOs were among those who participated, along with working professionals, corporate teams and athletes. The event, organised by Fortis Hospital, also marked the launch of its year-round ‘FIT Gurugram’ health and wellness initiative, which will include cycling events, yoga sessions, HYROX challenges, health camps, cleanliness drives and discussions on preventive healthcare. Fortis Healthcare group COO Anil Vinayak said the initiative reflected the hospital’s focus on preventive health and encouraging people to adopt healthier lifestyles.Fortis Hospital regional director Yash Rawat said, “The participation of more than 6,000 people reflected the city’s enthusiasm for fitness and community engagement.” He also thanked the city police and other agencies for their support in conducting the event.
