Palwal Police arrest 449 wanted accused in September crackdown

PALWAL: Palwal Police arrested 449 accused wanted in various criminal cases in September as part of a special drive against illegal activities and criminals, according to the district police.The arrests included 10 reward-listed accused, 17 proclaimed offenders (POs) and 81 bail jumpers, police said in a statement issued on October 6.The crackdown, carried out on the directions of Palwal superintendent of police Deepti Garg, targeted drug trafficking, illegal arms, illicit liquor, gambling and betting, theft and house-breaking cases.Police arrested 12 drug traffickers in 11 cases during the month. The seizures included 193.67 grams of smack, 73.79 grams of heroin, 4.414 kg of ganja and 186.220 grams of poppy husk.In cases related to illegal weapons, police arrested 19 accused in 12 cases. The recoveries included six pistols, seven illegal country-made firearms, one knife and 26 cartridges, police said.Police also arrested five accused in five cases related to the illegal liquor trade. The seizures included 449.5 bottles of country-made liquor and 420 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL).In action against gambling and betting, 22 accused were arrested in five cases. Police recovered Rs 28,550 in cash, according to the statement.Police also traced 10 theft and house-breaking cases and arrested nine accused. Cash, property and jewellery worth more than Rs 3.47 lakh were recovered, police said.SP Deepti Garg directed all station house officers, CIA staff, the Narcotics Cell and the PO staff to intensify the drive against wanted accused with the cooperation of the public.Garg said illegal activities would not be tolerated in Palwal and strict action would continue against those involved in such activities.Police appealed to residents to share information about people involved in illegal activities with the nearest police station, police post, special unit, police control room or by dialling 112. The identity of informants would be kept confidential, police said.
