Police draw up action plan to check border smuggling

Araria: Police have stepped up vigilance along the India-Nepal border and drawn up an action plan to check cross-border smuggling, narcotics trafficking and other anti-social activities. Breaking from the usual practice of holding review meetings at the district headquarters, SP Jitendra Kumar held the meeting at Sikti police station on Wednesday, seeking direct feedback from police officials posted across the district.The meeting focused on security challenges in the border belt and vulnerable routes allegedly used for smuggling and other illegal activities. The SP directed officers to remain on maximum alert against “narcotics trafficking, fake currency, illegal liquor, arms and other forms of cross-border crime”.Officers were asked to strengthen intelligence gathering and coordination and keep a close watch on vulnerable routes and locations.Police have also prepared a special action plan to curb the illegal narcotics trade, with emphasis on protecting school and college students and young people from drug abuse. Awareness campaigns will be held at schools, colleges and panchayat-level village chaupals, involving students, teachers, parents and community representatives.Police will strengthen their confidential intelligence network to identify those involved in the illegal sale and distribution of narcotic substances. Vigilance will also be intensified at vulnerable areas, markets, transport routes and border locations, while action against illegal liquor and ganja networks will be stepped up.The SP directed officers to maintain round-the-clock vigilance in the border belt and said negligence in border security, smuggling or other illegal activities would not be tolerated.
