Punjab grenade attack accused with 13 cases nabbed from Faridabad; Kulwant Ali was wanted in Jalalabad attack & Rajasthan RDX case; ‘smuggled’ narcotics from Pakistan

Gurgaon: A 29-year-old man wanted in connection with a grenade attack on Jalalabad city police station in Punjab’s Fazilka district on Sept 13 and the recovery of 7.5kg of RDX in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar district was nabbed from Faridabad. Kulwant Ali alias Sukha, a resident of Ferozepur in Punjab, was apprehended from Chhainsa on Oct 27 in a joint operation by Haryana special task force (STF) and Punjab anti-gangster task force (AGTF), which raided the house of his paternal aunt following an intelligence input.Ali was taken to Punjab by the AGTF team. “Punjab Police are probing his cross-border links and active network here,” a senior Haryana Police officer said. Faridabad police also questioned his relatives with whom he stayed. Police sources said Ali has 13 criminal cases registered against him, including three under the Prisoners Act, cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and two cases under the Explosive Substances Act. The latter include the Jalalabad grenade attack and the recovery of 7.5kg of RDX, for which a case was registered at Rawla police station.According to police sources, Ali was also involved in smuggling narcotics, including heroin, charas and opium, from Pakistan into India through drones and selling them across Punjab. His alleged role in the movement of contraband and explosives has prompted investigators to examine the extent of his network and its links with handlers operating across the border. The probe is expected to focus on the movement of explosives, drone-based consignments and the alleged supply chain connecting Punjab with networks operating from across the border.Investigators are also examining the suspected role of a Pakistan-based gangster-turned-terrorist in the cross-border network and whether Ali was acting as a local logistics handler. Police are questioning Ali to establish the extent of his involvement in the grenade attack, the RDX recovery case and the alleged narcotics smuggling operations.
