Nitesh Tiwari’s mythological epic ‘Ramayana: Part 1’ is gathering strong pace in advance bookings ahead of its November 5 release. Overseas markets are leading the charge, while domestic sales are picking up after a delayed rollout. Headlined by Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, the film is drawing steady interest from audiences at home and abroad.
India advance sales cross Rs 17 crore
According to trade website Sacnilk, the film has earned Rs 17.14 crore in advance sales in India as of 11 am on October 30. After removing blocked seats, the figure stands at Rs 14.29 crore. Between 6 am and 11 am, the film added Rs 7.25 lakh to its tally.Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash takes on the role of Ravana. The film has built this momentum despite a limited booking rollout over the last few days.
Overseas pre-sales near USD 3 million
International advance bookings are closing in on USD 3 million, which is roughly Rs 28 crore. North America remains the biggest contributor, bringing in close to USD 1.9 million, which is nearly three-fourths of the overseas total. The UK and Ireland have added around USD 268,000, while Australia and New Zealand have contributed about USD 248,000. Multiplex chain calls response to ‘Ramayana ‘ ‘very encouraging’
“The response to ‘Ramayana’ has been very encouraging, with advance bookings crossing 2.5 lakh tickets across the PVR INOX circuit. The film’s opening during a six-day festive window is well timed, as this is traditionally a period when families come together and cinema becomes a natural part of the celebrations. Given the story’s deep cultural connect and appeal across generations, we believe Ramayana has the potential to draw audiences in large numbers and contribute meaningfully to the festive box office,” shared Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Executive Director, PVR INOX Limited.
Distribution deadlock delays booking rollout
The domestic booking window was held up because distributors and exhibitors could not agree on revenue-sharing terms. The disagreement was about how much of the box office earnings distributors would receive in the opening weeks. As per the report, distributors put forward two proposals. The first was a three-week structure, with 60 per cent for the distributor in Week 1, 50 per cent in Week 2 and 40 per cent in Week 3. The second asked for a flat 55 per cent share for the first 11 days in a row, after which the usual industry slabs would apply. The makers reportedly felt the scale of the project justified better terms. The combined budget of both parts is estimated at around Rs 4,000 crore, and the team wanted a bigger share of earnings during the crucial opening period.Exhibitors, on the other hand, pointed to operating costs and the risk of giving a large number of screens to one film while agreeing to higher distributor shares. There was also worry that such terms could set a precedent for future big-budget releases.
Bookings open as talks ease
The deadlock has reportedly eased, and bookings have started at cinemas where distribution terms are settled. More theatres are expected to open sales as agreements are reached, with the remaining listings likely to go live by 7 pm on October 30. This wider rollout could give India’s advance sales another push in the coming days.Hindi markets are currently leading ticket sales, while the Kannada and Telugu versions are also gaining ground. Tamil and Malayalam listings are expected to grow as the rollout continues.
