Buxar: Seven elderly convicts, aged between 73 and 93 years, were released from Buxar’s jails on Friday after being granted special remission of sentence by the Bihar govt on Gandhi Jayanti.The release followed the state govt’s one-time policy decision to grant remission to eligible convicted prisoners and facilitate their premature release. A district-level committee reviewed the cases of eligible inmates and sent its recommendations to the state-level committee, which subsequently approved their release.Of the seven inmates, four were released from the Central Jail, Buxar, and three from the Open Jail, Buxar.Those released from the Central Jail were Ramvriksh Koeri (93); Harivansh Ram (84); Satyanarayan Ram (83); and Ramashray Koeri (80). All four are residents of Sasaram in Rohtas district. Ramvriksh is the oldest among the seven released inmates.From the Open Jail, Hansraj Ram (81) of West Champaran, Balram Singh (78) of Saharsa, and Vishwanath Yadav (73) of Patna were released.Jail superintendent Gyanita Gaurav said all seven inmates were formally released on Friday after completion of the required administrative procedures and documentation.
