Lucknow: Even as Akhilesh Yadav on Monday questioned the validity of a ‘quiet SIR’ underway after official completion of the first SIR, a delegation of the Samajwadi Party handed over bundles of documents and a written representation to the UP chief electoral officer, highlighting instances of duplicate voters in electoral rolls of 100 assembly seats even after the SIR held in the state has been completed.“The SIR of electoral rolls has officially ended but the EC has quietly started another SIR, possibly to tailor the voter list according to the need of the BJP. During SIR, our PDA ‘praharis’ stood guard and followed the exercise closely. After the exercise ended, names of voters were added by the BJP. Now, a second SIR is underway,” Akhilesh said before leaving for New Delhi on Monday to take part in the opposition march against the Election Commission. In Lucknow, a delegation of the SP reached the office of the UP chief electoral officer to hand over bundles of documents to back allegations that names of voters figure at more than one place in the electoral rolls, creating room for bogus voting during elections. The SP scrutinised electoral rolls of 100 assembly seats in the state and provided specific instances with evidence of how names of voters figure twice, thrice and in some instances as many as 10 times in electoral rolls. In the seven-page memorandum submitted to the CEO, a copy of which was also marked to the Election Commission of India, specific booth-wise instances of duplicate votes have been highlighted in 100 constituencies, demanding immediate action and deletion of all duplicate votes.
